Digital Retinal Imaging

What Is Digital Retinal Imaging?

Digital retinal photography is recommended for all of our patients for a screening, to establish a baseline, and to enhance their patient records.

Have you ever seen the inside of your eyes? See what the doctor sees when he or she looks in your eyes! We feel that it is important that our patients understand what we are looking for, and what the doctor sees when he or she looks inside your eyes.

Digital retinal photography provides your Optometrist with a high-definition view of your retina, optic nerve and all of the blood vessels of the eye. The image can be zoomed for even closer inspection, and manipulated in various ways to show details that cannot be seen by using any other method. It also allows the Optometrist to study the retina as a whole rather than in several smaller views.

Benefits

  • Permanent & accurate record is kept of the back of your eyes
  • identify changes too small to be seen using traditional methods
  • Improved detection of early changes
  • Allows you to see and understand what we see

  • Allows a more accurate referral to a specialist if required
  • Image can be enhanced and magnified if required
